this is what i would have to say--
1 Peter 3:13-16 (New International Version) (NIV)
13Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear[a]; do not be frightened."[b] 15But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
so..always be prepared, believer. there's a reason for the hope that we have :)
keep your chin up!

I am not going to give you any verses , just plain common sense. Everyone thinks different and everyone has the right to their own opinion no matter how contradictory it is to yours. Words are just words and who cares how they are used since they are only words which are a way for people to say whats on their minds. When you hear words or comments that are not to your liking just dont listen. Example if someone were to call me a name that people have come to associate with something bad , who cares , I sure dont because I know who I am and what I am and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion so I just dont pay attention or I will just laugh. What other people think I could careless since they can think all they want and still all their thinking and talking isnt going to pay my bills or put food on my table so it has no value and there is no point in reacting to words. Now if someone were to put their hands on you trying to force you to change to their ways or to listen to them then THATS when you should lash out. Words and scoffing cant been seen in the air so it is nothing. Like my mom used to always tell me growing up " consider the source" and why put value on something that has no substance to have any value. People no matter how grown up they think they are still have childish ways lurking within them and enjoy pissing people off. If you get pissed off they succeeded if you laugh or ignore them they loose and look stupid and you dont. When you lash out over words or scoffing you look stupid. ANother example , I have always had mostly all male friends and always told them , I dont care what you say or what stupid comments you might come out with but if you try and touch , I am going to bust your hands. IGNORE what people have to say unless it is coming from someone who is of importance to you and what they are saying is important to you.

Leviticus19:18 says we should love our fellows as ourselves and (Romans12:17-19)All these verses can help us to have reasons to desist the urges to lash back at anyone.

RO 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

ah, spoken like a true Christian...at last, you are free...so scoff as your fellow brethern do, judge all to be unworthy save thee, accept that all men were created equal, just that you were created more equal...yes, a true Christian.

Actually, I think you should lash out at the scoffers and reveal just what a mean little prick you really are behind that cloak of righteousness.
