First of all, at 5'5" and 120, your weight is very healthy, even if you are small framed. Its true that distance runners can be very thin, but also keep in mind that many of these women (you didn't state your gender, I am assuming, and I hope correctly, female) stop menstruating and lose bone mass if they get too thin. That is why I am bothered by the fact that your track coach told you this, even if it is theoretically true, because it could be unhealthy for you to do, could lead to an eating disorder, and also your weight should be between you and a doctor or dietician, not a coach! So please see one of those professionals about a good weight for you, and a good healthy eating plan that enables you to fuel your workouts. I ran track in high school, was 5'6", weighed 150(very muscular and wore a size 8), and could run a 6 minute mile, which meant I usually was in the middle of the pack. As much as I envied the 100 pound girls who set records and took state with 5 minute miles, I knew it was not realistic for my build. So please run hard and push yourself, but don't try to get thinner than is healthier than your build.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Don't get any ideas about being overweight because you are not. the weight doesn't count seeing as it might be all muscles. Do a body fat count. pinch ur upper arm if it's around one inch than yeah you'll run faster if you loose weight. But if it's lower than, your speed will not considerably increase. Either way, its a good idea to loose some weight by running more. But do not eat less.

You need to build up your endurance level...consider lifting weights 1-2 times a week in combination with your track workouts...also, try performing more sprinting drills.

That's not true.
The more muscle you have, the faster you will run. If you gain muscle, you will actually weigh more. Take no notice of your coach, you shouldn't lose weight.

well run! lol the only way to lose weight when your that size is to run a lot. ok but do this: buy some ancle weights and run with them, and hold sone sort of weight in your arms too! that way you'll have the muscle of fat person running but the weight of a sinnky person.

your coach is whack. if you lose any more weight at this point you will be unhealthy and any weight you burn will likely be muscle which you need to propel yourself. sorry no losing weight for that person.
