First of all, It is Fort Lost in the Woods, in the state of Misery.

There's not much at all to do there, St Louis is 120 miles away, Columbia and the u of Missouri, about 60 But in basic, you'll have so little free time anyway.
I remember, that the General Leonard Wood hospital had the only elevators in the county. Does that tell you something?
it is in the badlands of Missouri, where Jesse James hid out. You'll see why.

Yeah, I did so many push ups there that I think a valley should be named after me. If you are there for basic, do not worry about seeing McDonalds in Rolla. Basic training will keep you so busy you will not have time to get a look around. I was there from April 15, 1981 till the end of June. In all that time, I saw what Rolla looked like when I was on my way into the base and then sent out to AIT. The weather that time of year, If you don't like it, wait 5 minutes, it will change.

Its either really cold and rainy or hot and humid. Dont worry its only 9 weeks then you get to leave, unless you are an MP or engineer, then you are screwed.
