I believe you are talking about Satan having been given "free will", just as we too have been given free will...
GOD does not force us to love him or strive to obey him. He is patient giving us time to repent and turn aside for all badness.
That is Free Will.
Pride took over in Satan, he wanted what GOD had... He wanted the glory , the worship , even the power, GOD has. The Bible says, even the Demons shudder... They know what they have coming. In the end you, me, Joe next door, everyone will answer to GOD at some point. We are all responsible for ourselves... YES! That is some serious business.

Lucifer thought it up himself. He thought, "Wouldn't it be great to be God?" and decided to give it a shot, and failed miserably. According to Milton's "Paradise Lost," it wasn't much of a battle, as the Son of God appeared before Lucifer and his fellow rebels, and they all backed up right out of heaven, thus having no fight with the angels. While that is disputable, it is an obvious look at just how powerful Lucifer/Satan is in comparison to God. God could stomp that guy like he's a bug on the street, and will finally on the Day of Judgment. Lucifer convinced himself and his fellow rebellious angels, who are demons now, that they could become God through fighting, thus coming up with the idea all by his lonesome.

He tasted power and authority. His greed and lust for power was so great he would have destroyed heaven and everything else to gain control over it. That is why you can see when Satan is at work threw evil dictators like Hitler, Saddam, etc... In the kingdom of heaven you have to be a servant of everyone else to be a ruler and on earth people should take note. That is why the gates of Hell are so wide and it so large. People would give up eternity to gain a Little power for a Little while. LITTLE do they no!

Nobody tempted Lucifer. He just became proud, arrogant and jealous of God's power.
And made the most stupid mistake of all time, to try to take on God for control of the Universe.

As I understand it, God created Satan equal to Himself. Satan felt he should be worshipped like God , since he felt he was equal to God. He was kicked out because he is not God. He still wants and gets worshippers.
