get a tattoo that reminds you of your cousin john. it doesn't have to be something that other people will recognize as a memorial. for instance, if he was a painter then get a paint brush or if he loved music get the notes to his favorite song. be original and think outside the box. it will mean more than just a cross or some other generic thing. memorial tattoos are a great way to remember someone.

A lot of people choose to have portraits done as memorials, or something incorporating the name of the person. But you could also decide to have something which, to you, is symbolic of him.
Of course, as with all other kinds of tattoos, what has a lot of meaning to one person won't have any to another. So my advice would be to think of things your cousin enjoyed, or things that might represent him to you, and work from there. That way you can come up with something that has huge personal significance without being so traditional.
I hope this helps, and you come up with a tattoo that will commemorate your cousin well. Good luck!

If it is in memory only, put it in a place that is concealed. You might want to put a butterfly crossing a rainbow on your back or on your hip. The significance of a butterfly is a metamorphis which is a change that occurs when the caterpillar transforms within the cacoon and a comes out as a butterfly. MarieV

when I got a memorial tattoo for my aunt.. I picked out things that were important to her.. family, her lands and gardens, she loved flowers, and birds and sitting out on her porch and watching the animals..
So I took a picture of a swallowtail winged butterfly.. and talked to my tattoo artist. He and I looked through lots of art books.. til we found one with a fairy surrounded by plants, holding a rose. Jeff put clothes on her.. a nice tunic dress.. and we got started..
Actually in some ways.. a lot of my tattoos are or have little memorials to her.. my greenman has purple martins in his leaves, I have the flowers from her casket around my goddess portrait, there's roses around the base of the willow tree.It doesn't take a big tattoo to be a memorial piece to someone.. What matters is that it reminds you of their life.. and the good times..It could be their name.. their favorite song lyrics, animal, or animal print with their name over it.. like leaving an impression on you. cause they have if you want to do this.

my deepest regards to you and his family. i didn't want a cross or any traditional items for a tatoo for my 9 yrold son that passed away. i chose to have one of his drawings as my memorial tattoo for him. maybe this could work for you. a memory or momento of him. todays tattoo artists are really talented with all the things they can do nowadays.
