I had this happen to me the first day I moved into my house! The cat climbed up a tree and got on the roof. I tried putting treats in the tree and getting him to come down that way but it did not work. I left him up there for a while to see if he would just come down. All he did was just meow. I finally had to borrow a ladder from the nieghbors to get him down. Good luck, you can also contact your local animal control they might be able to help or the Human Society has traps that you can rent to get him down.

I know this by experience. Actually my cats get up to the roof by a tree branch and since I leave my upstairs window open, they go out and in as they please!
Anyway, If you have an upstairs, I just suggest getting out on the roof by climbing out of a window and getting your cat to come w/ treats if it does not trust you yet (if it does it should come when U call).
If U do NOT have a second story house, you could always use a ladder or if you do not have one tall enough, ask a neighbor! Im sure you could get the cat down! My old cat got stuck up there and he was scared so I climbed up the ladder to carry him down.
Other times if you put a ladder next to the roof, the cat will normally run down the steps on its own! But if you really have tryed everything you could do (your ladder, all of ur neighbors ladders, getting on the roof, ect.) It is always alright to call the fire department. They handle stuff like this everyday (my neighbor got into a panic and did this too).
But remember your cat is not going to die up in the roof ! And Its less likely to jump down! So don't panic!
~Hope this will help prepare 4 the future

** just a note to what MMM posted. Be VERY careful about the length of the leash attached to the harness. We had a cat that came to our clinic hang himself when he hopped up on a low branch of a tree and then attempt to jump over the fence. The leash caught on the very top of the fench and hanged the poor cat. Take obstacles into consideration and what can happen if your cat gets entangled in these obstacles when you decide how long to make the leash! And don't bother calling the fire department. Our local fire department will wait up to 48 hours before they will come "rescue" your kitty. They operate on the idea that if he knew how to get up there... he knows how to get down (obviously weather will change their time allowance). So leave the sucker up there! I guess the best way to solve the problem would be to keep your cat as an indoor cat.

My cats once went into the walls during the renovation of our kitchen one year, we left the hole open and can cat food at the bottom. Eventually they came out.
If you can get up there safely, bring her down without hurting both of you.
Or call the FD, they have a cherrypicker for rooftop rescues.
And that's what I'd do, if I had no skylights or anything like that.

If it got up there, it will probably find a way back down. In the future though, if you don't want a cat fiddling on the roof, I suggest you get a harness (not a collar) and a nice long rope and keep it tied up outside. Letting a cat wonder around is asking for trouble not only from local laws but from predators and cat haters and cars and...fill in the blanks....................!

Well when I found my cat Angel up there I told her she was going to have to figure out how to get back down cause there was no way I could get her and I was serious. I had no ladder or anyone to call to get her and I figured giving her temperament she would have clawed them to death anyway. I talked to her and said you must have gotten up there by this tree and kept coaxing her to the tree she would look at it and walk away meowing. I finally told her that she would have to come down and went inside and it wasn't long before she climbed down and she did this one other time that I know of and the same thing happened and she finally quit.

If the cat is a kitten or a young inexperienced cat, I will definitely get a ladder and go up the roof myself to fetch it. If the cat is an experienced adult cat who remebrs how he got up there, I will coax him to come down the same way ---- unless I see he needs help. Ive climbed up roofs to retrieve rebellious cats... but in my experience, there was more danger of ME falling off then the cat losing its balance.

In the rooftop, call for some help getting it down. If you mean on the rooftop, then coax it down with treats or food

One Christmas morning my cat got herself way up a very high tree and was very scared and didnt want to come down. We put a tall ladder against the tree and she eventually came down the ladder.

I would ignore it and the cat will find a way to come down. Give it a couple hours at least.
