My family celebrates by having a chocolate cake for the birthday boy and a separate cake for the rest of the family and friends that come to the party. Also have some presents and of course take pictures.

I know the cake will make the birthday boy filthy but it is all in the fun. Make sure he is just in his diaper because you will want to wash him up immediately.

If you're ordering cake instead of making it order it from Wal-Mart. They give you a second cake for free that's just the perfect size for a baby to mash. Just make sure when you order that you tell them it's for your child's first birthday. I had my daughter's first birthday at the park so the kids could play on the swings and slides while they were there. I also made up treat bags for all the kids. And for beverages, I bought some bottled water and some Hugs drinks as well as soda so parents didnt have to give their kids soda if they didnt want to and so every body had plenty of options. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, had potato salad, a veggie tray, chips, cheesies, and of course, cake and ice cream. If you do have it outside, make sure you have a good cooler that will keep the ice cream cold. My cooler ended up being too small and most of the ice cream melted! ; ( But it ended up being a success anyway. Just make sure your son has fun above all. This day belongs to him! Good luck!
