How do I change the font size in Microsoft Word by a fraction (e.g. I want a font size of 12.1). I am typing it in the box, but it tells me "this is an invalid number."

Unfortunately you can't. Font sizes run like shoe sizes, only whole or half sizes. (e.g. 8.5, 9, 11.5)

It only seems to work with whole numbers and halfs (e.g. 11.5, 12, 12.5, etc.). You could try adjusting your Character Spacing...
Click on Format and select Font. Select the second tab at the top that says Character Spacing and adjust either the Scale (again you are very limited) or the spacing (expand by .1pt.).

Not all fonts are the same. You could try a different one to get the size needed.

Good luck.

In word 2007 u get font sizes from 1 to 1638. Earlier versions 1-500 only.
Word only takes x.5 as fractional value.
But for more options in formating fonts and sizes u need type setting softwares such as adobe page maker , coreldraw etc..
In such softwares u get fractional values other than 0.5.
Word is a simplified word processing software.

The only fraction of a point that MS Word will accept is .5. Other than that, you can only use whole numbers.

I think you can only change it with whole numbers after 11. You can try to change it by 0.5. It may be that 0.1 isn't programmed in.
