Today on PokerStars, I got four of a kind (Jacks), then on the next hand I would have had four of a kind, but I folded a 9-2 against a big bet and the flop was Q-2-2, the turn was 7 and the river was 2.

D'oh!

As Bill F noted, the odds of getting four of a kind for any specific hand, before the deal, in holdem is approximately 0.17%.

So, once you have gotten four of a kind on one hand, you have a 0.17% chance on getting four of a kind on the next hand.

The odds of gettng four of a kind on the NEXT two hands is 0.17% of 0.17%, or 0.000289%. (Bill F and closetcoon_fan have both misplaced the decimal point.)

The odds of getting four of a kind two hands in a row at any time in the future depends on the number of hands you play. If you play enough hands it will be almost inevitable.

Addendum

Since you have recevied three differeny answers, it appears a remedial math lesson is in order. The wizard of odds shows the odds as being approximately 0.0017 to 1. However, a percentage is a ratio of a number to 100, so 0.0017 has to be multiplied by 100 to convert it to a percentage, 0.17%.

Now, to compute the odds of two specific hands getting four of a kind, you have to multiply the odds. In this case the equation is:

(0.17/100) x (0.17/100) = (0.17 x 0.17) / (100 x 100)

which equals 0.0289 / 10000.

To convert that back into a percentage you have to divide both the numerator and the denominator by 100, giving you

0.000289 / 100 = 0.000289%

since texas holdem you technically get 7 cards, the odds would be the same as 7 card stud

according to http://wizardofodds.com/poker, you should get 4 of a kind about .17% of the time ... or 17 times out of 10000

the odds of that happening two time in a row would be
.17%*.17% = .0289%
.0289% means about 29 times out of a million -- or about once every 33000 times

so yes it is quite a rare occurence

The odds of getting it twice in a row is .00000289%. After you have already seen a four of a kind, then it is .0017% for the next hand.

It can happen anytime. I had KK on Full tilt and flopped 2 K's and then had a 2 6 and flopped a set of 2's.
