In English, the word "god" is mostly used in reference to the Christian god, but the word itself is simply a descriptive noun. You sometimes get the bass ackwards comments like the ones posted by Dolphin and idspudnik who think God is a Dog to the following question.

The Apostle John used four different Greek spellings for the word god, depending on its use, such as when he referred to God the Father, as compared to others. Do other languages also use different spelling to define one form of the word from another?
