It really depends on the test but I have had a vet just LOOK at a stool sample and make a diagnosis. I am sure that even if they can't do that, they may be able to do a little something for your dog right away, anyway. If you're as worried as you sound, is there an emergency room for animals in your town? I've had to go to those before, and while they're a little more expensive, peace of mind and the health of your pet is worth it.

It depends upon what the vet is looking for. You're vet will take a sample and test it right away and will get results. The vet should then forward the sample to the lab for further testing and better more detailed tests. That can take several days for the results. You should, however, be given a pretty good idea of what is going on during the initial exam and fecal check. A blood panel should also be taken, if your worried that it is something serious. A panel should be done yearly anyway. Don't worry.

Passing blood? Worms? Distended stomach? Viral infection like Parvo? A puppy or full grown? Running a fever? Now it's your parents job to do this, but you need to be told, all living things die, it's what makes TIME the most precious thing we have to share with those we care about. It's something people can't learn any other way. What you have to remember is how lucky your dog was to have you for an owner. And only good pet owners feel bad about the loss of a pet. All you can do is your best to raise, train and look after them properly and give them your attention, which is the thing a pet craves above all else. Be there to comfort them. I hope and pray your dog will be okay. But if you do lose your dog, just remember there are countless more in need of a good home. When you are ready.

Ask the vet. The results could be available within an hour or in a couple dayd, depending on the test.
If the vet thought your dog was going to die right away, then he or she would have admitted the dog overnight for urgent care. Your dog is most likely just sick and will get well once treatment starts.

Did the vet say the dog was very sick? From my experience with vets if something was critical and couldnt wait they would have kept the dog at the vet's if you brought it...Unless you are taking a sample and the dog tomorrow morning. And yes they usually have a lab on site so they can probably tell you right off what is wrong.....

depends on what the vet is looking for. If he has the test done in his office it will take a matter of minutes. If he has to send the test away it takes 24 hours.
