Basically it is to differenciate between the sexes. In the sixties and seventies men had long hair but it was seen as a way to rebel against tradition and it was a way of freedom of choice that was displayed in the generation which opened up a new wave and culture against a society that was tight laced. Long hair was part of a music movement and was part of a freedom movement. MarieV

That isn't true. If guys and girls got their hair cut the same amount, their hair length would be identical. When guys are boys, their parents take them to get their hair cut, when the boys are too young to really understand or do anything about it. When girls are little, their parents normally let it grow out.

Well, I'm a guy with very long hair, but I know what you mean, in terms of the average guy. It's mainly fashion, but I'm not sure how the tradition started. In some cultures, in the past & even currently guys still have long hair. Jesus had long hair. Even George Washington had long hair (although it was a wig). Dunno why nowadays it's usually only girls.

i personally like a well-groomed man which in our culture is the way most executives look. if it's going to be long i love the Antonio Banderas look--slicked back with a short ponytail. as far as women are concerned i can only say that most of the guys i meet think long hair is the sexiest.

because it is basically the gender norm: girls have long hair and guys have short hair. however, it seems like styles for short hair for girls and long hair for boys have become more popular

well now-a-day's guys are either going 4 the long hair rockstar, skaterboy look and they've let there hair grow but i think guys don't have like G
'GIRL" long hair because long hair+nice hair takes A-LOT of Matienence soooooo i guess guys don't want to take alll that time with the moiusturizing,combing,parting,brushing,de-frizzing,straightning,curling,dyeing,and all that crap ..... so they just thought short hair is most suitible for themselves!
