In high school and college, I studied both Russian and German at the same time. While I would occasionally think in "EnGeRush" (English/German/Russian), I didn't have any other difficulties in studying two languages.

Taking two languages at the same time was difficult for me especially when I took two with contradictory pronunciations. I took German and French, the first was guttural but pronouncing every word as spelled, while the second omits some letter/s as you pronounce the words. It became hilarious when I had to answer French words when asked in German, while correct in its sense, it was in the wrong language. I gave up German since I was still in my basics then, and I was already in a little more advanced course in French. And it was really a stretch that time, since the Goethe Institut in Manila was far from my place. Alliance Française de Manille was nearer.

I think though that if it were the young kids who would try learning new languages, they won't have any difficulty regardless of pronunciation.

I have taken two languages at the same time. I wasn't very difficult for me. Some people, like Richard Gere in American Gigolo, have a natural gift. It's called "speaking in tongues". There are many other gifts to explore, so if the languages are difficult, try something else!

Best wishes in reaching your educational goals!

I am currently learning Spanish at my high school, French at a community college nearby, Czech because my gf speaks it and I am always learning new things in English. Therefore, I am learning 4, really only 3 though, haha, languages at a time and I am doing just fine! Go for it! Good luck! ;)

Take languages one at a time, taking two at a time will cause confusion with words and grammar.
