The USA Government and the American troops will soon walk in abject shame and eat crow when they lose Iraq. Those who believed in this war started on lies will soon see defeat and all of us anti war people can say "I told you so". The USA should have learned from the failed Vietnam war. War supporters should have learned too. Shame on the American Government.

hey mike b..the funding was cut because ur government thinks that there is no point to struggle anymore..conclusion..defeat.

why is it americans always denied the fact that they've lost the war in Vietnam? Is it because of the american pride? yes,everyone loves winning but when history has claimed you lost..you lost..thats it.

hey,following orders and everything is one thing for soldiers but killing children,innocent lives..embarrasment in Gharaib prison? are the soldiers following orders or they act on their own accord?

US can claimed victory at any time? hell yeah..say it when the case in Iraq is solved..the US attack Iraq in the name of fighting against terrorism and democracy..do we see so called 'democracy' there in Iraq? If you call victory as anihilating other country to ashes..you surely are..so called protector..

"Why Did We Not Learn From The 10-Year War in Vietnam?"
This is a very valid question - so much that I have paid much more attention now to the similarities and parallels between the two conflicts than before. You are correct in stating that the U.S. should have learned from the war in Vietnam. Those who support the military and the government need to realise this, and not blame political opposition, or the media, or Jane Fonda for their current government's failures. It is definitely the basis for writing a thesis or a book.

We cannot "lose" the war in Iraq for the same reason we cannot "win" the war in Iraq.

We're the only ones defining the objective, or setting the agenda. We're the only ones drawing the finish lines, so we're the only ones who can determine if we reach it. We can declare victory any time we want.

i don't know what "lies" you are talking about and we didn't lose in Vietnam the liberals cut the funding for the war and we left and the only shame i see is that the liberals made us leave and let over 58,000 Americans die for nothing in Vietnam and now they are trying to do it again we beat Sodom's military in mouth or two and we are trying to help Iraq's new government and now the libs want us to pull out before the new Iraq government can take care of themselves and let 3,000 Americans die for nothing

Americans learned from Viet Nam. Our so-called leaders didn't. They believe in the infallibility of Republican CEO, president, etc; and they believe that gives them the privilege of ordering everyone else around.
They went to Iraq for no reason, and have failed to rebuild, make friends, influence young people, get the water running, turn on the oil or seal off the borders. They're trying to fight a bad idea with guns, humvees and prayer.
As a result, we're looking at another Viet Nam--people living on a collective tribal level not nearly ready for a rights-based government;
They're at war with their own religious other sect and Kurds and Christians because they aren't realistic enough to run anything on a just basis.
Our leaders didn't learn because they're collectivists too--public-interest imperial-presidency supporters; believers in the leader's infallibility, ordering everyone else around and excusing their failures as being "necessary to keep law and order going"--their laws meaning "their senseless orders".

An American troop walking in shame? How dare you? You don't have to support the war if you don't want to, and you don't have to support my government either, I take it you are not an American anyway, so I dare you to say that to me or any other soldier sailor airman or marine, we only follow orders, we don't make political decisions.

This is a new generation. Vietnam was lost due to politics and a disapproving press. The new generation does not know how it was.

We did. Don't have a liberal president in office when attacked or wanting to win the war.

Because those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it. And sadly, the bushies know this, so they realized they could sell this war to enough people and it worked. They made fun of all of us who were warning that this very thing would happen. Saying "I told you so" is very cold comfort when you're watching your country go down the drain.
