Its not something to believe in. Genealogy is the study and tracing of family pedigrees. This involves the collection of the names of relatives, both living and deceased, and establishing the relationships among them based on primary, secondary and/or circumstantial evidence or documentation, thus building up a cohesive family tree.

Hey Richard,

You are catching a lot of flack on this question. I think you are concerned with DNA and the study of GENES.

Genealogy is the study of family pedigree. There is nothing to disbelieve. You have parents, who they are is your GENEALOGY.

If the study of GENES and DNA are your question, well, that is a hard science, not complete in it's results. But it does lend credibility to claims of family Pedigree when you find through RECORDS that you have a distant cousin, and your DNA shows a match.

Still not sure if that was your question. So, for your own knowledge, here are some sites about GENEALOGY.

Genealogy is not the same as Astrology, you don't have to believe in it you just trace your lineage, you can start very simply with your own parents, brothers and sisters then you can move forward to your grandparents and so on .. as far as technically possible.

Do you mean, like why do people do it? Why does anyone do any hobby? EVERY one has ancestors, good or bad, and it is simply a challenge to see how much I can learn. Lots of people like to go around hitting little balls with sticks... I don't get that, but nothing wrong with it.
I like finding information and stretching my mind. I like the idea of having something unique to share with my grandchildren. And.. I especially like meeting cool people online, and feeling like we "understand" each other, instead of so many things in this world, that put up barriers between people.
Or maybe you have genealogy confused with astrology, or horoscopes, etc.

The people who answer questions here do.

Your question is like asking if you belive in fly fishing, quilting, marathon running, chess, coin collecting or bird watching. Genealogy is a hobby. Some people enjoy it, some don't.

Yes. My mother has done geneology on my father's family history and dicovered that the name I hold now was slightly different and had suddenly just changed to this form in the 1800s. Then we traced my family down to the Brandenburgs of Prussian royalty. Frederick the Great's line to be exact...
