Buddhism doesn't worship, their images are used as a mental object to focus and channel the mind's power into deep contemplation, meditative insight and unfolding of good and bad aspects of the mind. The benevolent would be developed and expanded further, while the malevolent would be diminished gradually.
And yes, many monks do go and meditate at morgues or cemetaries, to "get over" fear of death, to diminish clinging to life and to experience for oneself that Life is Impermanent, Life is uncertain but Death is certain to all living beings.
