Over the counter most of the things you can buy are stripper/degreasers containing peroxide. They are of some help, but they are much of a muchness, pharmacist will advise you.

Anything above mild acne probably needs either oral of topical antibiotics from your GP, they may be needed very long term.

Finally if the acne is severe and antibiotics fail, the treatment of choice is Roaccutane. Because of it's side effect it can only be prescribed by hospital dermatologists.

Try this for acne:

Accutane-an antibiotic and Ziana- a new acne gel. See your dermotologist. Also wash face with cool or cold water, never hot. And never use scrubs or toners, they aggravate acne. Use a mild cleanser and mositurizer like Cetaphil.
If you want to try an acne system, try Patricia Wexler MD acne line at Bath & Body. Its costs $50.00 for the starter kit, but you can return it if you dont like it. I love her products.

Best Wishes
