My cat had a seizure and the vet couldn't subscribe anything until he saw her having a seizure, which wasn't very long cause I had to take her in for her shot and she was so terribly scared she had a seizure right in the vet hospital. They gave her some thing to settle her down, And said she has epilepsy, he prescribed her phenobarbital. 15 mg. that's the lowest dosage so I have to cut it in half & give her 1/2 in the morning 1/2 in the evening. The vet said seizures are more comman in dogs not so much in cats, mine was his first patient with seizure. But he has to see it before he will subscribe any medication.

Well they are likely to want to see him, and do some testing to see if they can rule other things out, and possibly find a reason for the violent seizures. A good vet won't prescribe phenobarbital on your say so....

They have to see the dog before they can write a perscription. Not that I can think of anyone wanting to abuse pheno, but still most state laws say that the vet must see the dog first.
