Whats the best way to teach your little one how to write?

Depends on how old they are. If they're under the age of three, give them a pen, pencil, crayon, and paper and let them get used to holding it in their hand. There's a definite process the body and brain have in order to get to the point of holding a writing utensil correctly. Encourage anything that goes on that piece of paper. Say to the child, "Tell about your picture." And let them tell you. Don't forget how to write the child's name and say each letter as you write it. You may be surprised with what they perceive their picture to be. Then write their words on the paper. Keep it. Keep several of them and have it as a story to read to them. These shows them that those things that you are writing on the paper are words, that actually make up something. When the child has mastered simple people shapes and the like (big circle with sticks for arms and maybe a body or hair or shoes), show them how to write their name. It doesn't have to be lined paper, as the child is just learning. Yeah, you may end up was some interesting pictures on your wall, but it's a process and you can always paint or clean the wall. Do not correct them on the spelling or their pictures. What the child (especially 3 and younger) writes or draws is exactly what they think it is and to tell them otherwise ("that's wrong") is crushing. Not sure if that helps, but good luck.

Or- slowly write with him/her. Either write with your hand slowly in front of him/her or teach him/her by putting your hand on his/her hand to write together.

How little is the little one? Don't push if she/he is not ready -- they're only little once and the time goes by way too quickly.
