I bought a 2L bottle of fruit punch about a month ago. I opened it a few times waterfalled the juice into my mouth, never touching the rim. I left it in my room the entire time, never refridgerating it. Today, I went to get it and the rectangular bottle had inflated into a cylinder. When I opened it, gas escaped and fizzed up through the juice. I tasted it and it didn't seem to have gone bad and it was carbonated.

I pretty sure no one tampered with it. Can anyone explain what happened?

That's pretty sick.
It seems like the bottle was close to being full when you saved it for a month. If it was carbonated, after you disturbed it and closed it again, the carbon dioxide slowly leaks out of the liquid, expanding the bottle. It may have gained enough pressure to change the shape of the bottle. All the gas trapped in there must have fizzed out when you opened it a month later.
Next time, if you leave an open drink out for a month, just throw it out.

Gross, ya know there is bacteria in the air that could have floated in and gone crazy in there! Why would you keep a drink unrefrigerated for a MONTH! Yuck! Besides, it may taste okay, but it's probably not. Watch'ya get Montezumas revenge! He he he, dummy!
