it drives me crazy when ppl are standing right next to children and light up cigarettes and some ppl think im mean when i say something why should the kid have to breathe smoke just so they can be "comfortable" they should think about other ppls comfort
i smoked for 10 years but never around children or in public places where children are present

listen ppl im not telling ppl to quit smoking im just saying that you shouldnt sit next to someones kid and light up a cigarette ppl should be more respectful why the hell is it my responsibility to move myself and not theirs to be considerate in any fashion i will get my child out of the situation but it is rude for their habit to intrude on everyone elses comfort

I agree with you. I still smoke, but I also have a small child. I go outside to smoke my cigarette or I step out of my vehicle while she is still in the car. I keep clear of main building entrances so when people walk by, they should be safe from my smoke and I always try to keep it away from small children, ANYONE'S small children. I have actually gotten offended when people drag their child to smoking areas to light up. Kids don't need to breathe that crap. If we feel the need to poison ourselves, don't get the kids involved too.

When my son was a baby, a smoker walked past his pram and tipped the ash off their cigarette right into his pram. It was accidental, but still - I think it just shows that some people really don't have much concern for those around them. There are some smokers who are very considerate and will always smoke away from others, so we can't really criticise ALL smokers - it's down to the type of person you are. In Scotland, they banned smoking in public places, and what a great thing that has been. I live in hope that smoking will become less and less popular and eventually die a death.

I get very upset when people smoke near my children. I couldn't believe this but I was at chucky cheese the other day with my 2 girls and there were people standing in front of the door smoking. It was a childrens place you would think some people would have enough respect to walk across the street or somewhere away from the door.

I think I'm like you. I'll say something too. Nothing drives me more nuts than to see a baby in one arm and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. It literally kills me. I don't care what kind of disgusting looks I get, how many times I've been told to mind my own business either. If it makes at least one parent stop and think and put out their dang cigarette, then I've done a good thing.
The weird thing...is I am an occassional smoker....who has five children. Not once have my children seen me smoke!

My mom smokes. She has since I was little. She has always smoked outside, even in the middle of the winter. She opens a the windows in the car if she has to smoke then, and leave the cigarette out the window. I have barely been exposed to it, therefore, I hate the smell and everything. I will never do it.

Where are you taking your kids? Most restaurants don't allow smoking now anyway and I can't picture people sparking up in the park while sitting on the swings. I can't say I agree with smoking next to children but with the new smoking laws coming in I can't see it being a huge problem.

It is terrible when someone lites up around kids. They didn't choose to smoke so why inflict it on them. I hate seeing parents holding their baby in one arm and smoke in the other. BAD PARENTS. Do they not realise the problems it causes. Not only asthma but it ups their chances of lung cancer.
I love it in Australia. Smoking is banned in restaurants, shopping centres and within i believe it is 200mt of schools (not that parents know this at our school, they smoke just outside the gate)playgrounds and public venues.
Lucky us

I'm with you!! Or when you go into a business the smokers are standing 2 feet away from the door and you have to wade through the smoke to get in. Don't smokers realize their clothes, breath and hands stink!!!?

Let them think you are crazy. You are not being mean, and they are being inconsiderate to smoke around kids. I don't want anyone smoking around me, because I have asthma.
I agree with Daisy, why do the businesses let the smokers smoke outside around the doors you are going into when entering their businesses?

smokers are not bad people you should be rude to I smoke too not in my home nor do I take my kids to resturants that allow smoking, It sounds like you know what to do when a cig is lit around your baby stick with that only drop the giving people a peice of your mind you would be surprised but some older generatios dont actually belive that smoking around a kid is bad for them not everyone is trying to be mean to you on purpose
