I don't know if anyone reads dooce.com, but today i read this in her blog:

"My roommates eventually took pity on me and introduced me to moisturizer, one that wouldn’t cause massive, pepperoni-sized acne, but no one ever thought to tell me to stop using bar soap to clean my face. And up until a few weeks ago, that is what I have been using every morning and night. Bar soap. On my face. And have wondered ignorantly why people often think that I am older than my husband who was born ten years before I was."

Now I'm freaking out, because I use bar soap in the shower for my body and face. Is this wrong?!?!

Somewhat, Because soap is great as soap to take of dirty and clean but it leaves your body dry and that is the problem. You should never really use soap for your face. You should use a cleansing product like Mary Kays skin care products. Then you have to follow with moisturizer like face creams. Same with your body use shampoo or like Doves body wash which has a lot of moisturizers and then when you get out of the shower put some lotion on. It's something that you can fix or start doing something about it. I don't know about age-wise whats the negativity about bar soap but I do know it dries your skin big time!

The thing with faces is that catch alot of dirt. So they need cleaning. If you use a bar soap that strips all the natural oils from your sking you get a nice clean fresh feeling BUT by noon your body is desparately trying to replace those oils that protect your skin and maintain its subtleness. So you basically get oily shiney and you feel as if you need to wash it again also when these oil ducts go into overdrive it opens up your pores. When pores open up stuff gets in causing build up. Now youve got these blackheads and god forbid pimples. So really what ya want is something that cleans but hydrates. You dont have to spend a fortune. If you do use bar soap and it does de-oil your face a face moisturizer will be fine. If you truely want to do your face a favor find a moisturizer with a bit o sunblock for daily use even when your not at the beach your face catches those sun rays and oi oi oi those can muck ya right up. Cheers! take care.

I was told not to use bar soap also. I was told not to because all the germs on your hands are moved to the bar of soap. So they sit there for a while and then when you go to wash your face all the germs from everything you toach on now on your face. Also if you had pimples or any blackheads when you washed your face the last times are still on the soap and you put all the dirt back on. Which then cause more pimples. The soap also cause dry skin

Bar soap dries out the skin. When the skin realizes all of its oils were stripped off it sends out more oils. So you end up with more acne. The answer is to use a good foaming cleanser on your face or something really mild like Dove or Ivory. Personally, I love Dove's foaming face and body cleanser. It works for the breakouts on my face and back, but it's also a moisturizing cleanser so my whole body feels wonderful after the shower...and no more big breakouts.

A lot of bar soaps dry your face out really bad. Coming from personal experience Ivory is extreme when it comes to drying out the face which typically causes your face to produce more oils because of the excessive drying out of the skin due to the soap which for those with naturally oily skin could cause them to break out badly...Moisturizing your face with products isn't bad when using the right brand and product for your skin type...some are oiler than others.

You should never use just normal soap on your face due to it's high PH factor and because it is has alkaline in it. It dries out your skin and makes it rougher . You need to cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin twice as day or at least use a cleanser the ingredients are way less harsh and gentler.

As long as you rinse off the soap like immediately it won't dry out the skin and rubbing vigorously with the towel to exfoliate works just fine. If you don't have problem skin then just keep on doing it and don't pay anyy mind to others. and the soap will eventually dry out pimples too

you shouldnt use bar soap on your face (especially while in the shower) because bar soap is easily exposed bacteria while its sitting in your shower caddy, side rails, etc. plus your hands arent really clean and you are touching your face with all the germs that you touched the faucet, shower curtain, and shower walls with.

its best to just get the stuff in a container, because it is seals and free from debris, bacteria, etc.

of course! You should use actual facial wash and not bar soap because the skin on the face is much sensitive to the one on the body.It will dry out your skin.Don't forget moisturizer!

depends really on which bar soap... I use Aveeno... Doctor recommended... i use it wen im in the mood to face the mirror for half an hour washing my face... But wen im in a hurry... i use cetaphil, it's liquid. it takes me a minute...

but that aveeno is good...

dont use zest....

dove is okay... only one fouth of it is soap, and the rest is moisturizing, whatever...

so ... as what i said.. depends on the soap....
