When a person is raped do they need empathy or discipline?
I found the rape kit thing cold and sterile and the hospital really not comforting at all. Yet I felt safer there than at home.

Why is that ? Anyone ever felt that ?

only people who gone through what you had can give you empathy.

since I've never experienced what you has i can't give you empathy but i do sympathy with you, i don't think you need to be disciplined, what you need is a lot of love and moral support from friends and family, and prayers.

I would defiantly go with empathy. But I would say that being a counsellor. I cannot see any need fro discipline.

Oh and dont get empathy and sympathy confued like some anwsers.

Empathy is to walk in anothers shoes - symapthy is to project

There are still those who say it must be the woman's fault. Proof positive that dinosaurs still rome the earth

It does strick me as very odd that rape is refered to as a sex crime. Surely it is a crime of violence - the woman had been violated.

After all if a person beats up another with a baseball bat - is it called a sports crime?

You need empathy more than discipline.

It's normal to find comfort in a controlled environment after you've been raped. You had no control, during the rape....you may feel that you've re-gained some control over your life, when you are given instructions, advice or guidelines on how to help yourself heal.

Through-out the process of healing....you deserve to have empathy every step of the way.

I hope you have many helping hands to hold along your path.

Peace and all the best to you!

Empathy

I'm betting that it takes a little of each.

Someone close to me was raped, and I could see that at times she felt burdened by all the empathy. She just wanted her life to go back to normal, and all of the solicitous behavior was a reminder that things weren't normal.

It gets better. All the best to you.

I am lucky and have never had to experience that kind of suffering. What I know from my own life is that any of us need compassion and empathy more than discipline. I have felt safer around strangers than around my own relatives at times and it is sad, especially when it is a traumatic time.

Sorry for you. No I have never felt that way. A raped victim does not need to be disciplined. They have done nothing wrong. There are groups out there to help you cope. Again, I am sorry for what you have experienced. I hope the guy is behind bars.

I believe that a person who is raped needs a friend who will stick by them. A friend who doesn't care how many times they get yelled at, or anything else. But discipline is a little helpful as it helps them not to get too suicidal, etc.

Of course it is awful in the hospital. It is so clinical and cold. Do you live alone? If you do, please have a friend stay with you or go to their house. Maybe moving would be a good idea. It did not happen to me at home, thank God.
