The South Florida Business Journal

will give you a list of the largest companies, the media companies, the public relations agencies, the law firms etc. in their book of lists. Then write up a one page cover letter and a resume to each of the workplaces you would like to intern in and you should find an internship relatively easily.

Many companies like to hire interns because:
1.) They're either free or cheap
2.) It's good way to test a future employee without committing to them.
3.) They feel like they're advancing their industry by providing a hybrid educational/work experience for a young person who plans to devote their career to it.

If you send out 10 letters, you should get at least 1-2 offers even in competitive fields.
