Speed is an amphetamine, meaning it's meant to literally "speed" you up. It does this in a variety of ways;

It increases the speed of neuron transfer in the brain.
It decreases digestion, leaving energy for other functions.
It constricts the blood vessels, forcing the heart to beat faster.
It increases the breakdown of fat deposits in the body.
And a variety of other things. ^_^

When it speeds up the neuron transfers in the brain, it also blocks the body's natural transmitters- this is where the drug gets dangerous. The body, seeing that there's a good source of transmitters, shuts down it's natural production. When the speed exits your system, suddenly your left with no transmitters at all for that particular function.

This is where addiction, withdrawl and damage all occur. The time the body spends trying to rebuild it's transmitters causes damage to the brain and mental functioning. Withdrawl (pretty much crummy feelings) happens when your body craves that transmitter. Addiction in your brain associating the drug with working, and your brain telling you that you need that drug NOW!

So a very powerful drug, but also a very very dangerous one.

1st of all, speed is methamphetamine, not amphetamine. The two can be mixed but it would really mess you up. If you do speed then you would get the same effects of method. Speed is the same thing as method just in powder form. It literally speeds everything up times 2. You just don't get a rush and some other things that crystal meth would give you

For me, it was the White Stripes and Modest Mouse. Growing up, I listened to strictly punk rock and heavy metal. Just because in my mind, all other music was boring trash. But after I discovered how much I loved those two bands, it made me start looking into more music, and I became much more open-minded about music. Now I'll listen to anything and everything, and I won't deem any kind of music 'trash' without a fair listen.

I have lived in some bad neigborhoods in AZ...if you are talking about crystal meth...They usually think the FBI or some government agent is after them...and they love to pick giant holes in their body. There is sometimes the "glassy" look in the eyes, like there is nothing human left in them.

I grew up in Cleveland...which is full of crackheads. The main difference is, that a "tweaker" will most likely sneak around while you are asleep and try to break into your stuff and steal, because they are paranoid. There are some that are murderous though. A crackhead is more straightforward, and will just shoot you and take it.

In layman's terms, 'speed' (amphetamines) causes your brain-activity to increase- more & faster electrical impulses. It also causes physiological responses in your body- like shalower respiration, increased heart-rate, adrenaline surges, etc. Plus the obvious complications that arise from sleep-deprivation- fatigue, anxiety, poor motor-skills & reduced capacity for logical thought.
It is NOT healthy for your mind OR your body.

Don't do it. I grew up in a house full of speed addicts and they get crazy. They start yelling in the streets and acting stupid. Though it effects people differently.

I am a recovered meth addict and it does horrible things to you! At first it is great you feel like super human like you can do anything and you stay awake for days ,you do not eat, and as you progress into addiction you become paranoid and psychotic! It is not fun, I have been clean since May 3rd,2003 and thank God everyday that I am still alive. Please don't try it!

at first, you think it's fun, and exiting, then it gets its grip on you, soon you are staying up for days, taking off work, (or doing it with everybody at work) lying to people, denying you are doing it. It ruins your organs, teeth, breath and health., It turns you psychotic, and perverted. it can give you a stroke or heart damage. it does nothing good for you, and endless bad things. Stay the f away from it. please! nothing good can come from it. Hitler used a lot of "speed" and was recovering from it, "sleeping in", the day his bunker door was heaved in.
