or just men? And what about married couples and gay couples living together or that have a civil union with each other?

The draft will not return unless the democrats bring it back (again). 3 Democratic leaders have already unsuccessfully tried to bring it back a few times since the beginning of the Iraq war. This is purely a scare tactic to rouse up anti-war sentiment among the general pop. This question needs no answer as it won't happen; but since I am sure you aren't satisfied with that the best answer is yes and no. In the past they have only drafted men, however, it would not be unconstitutional for women to be drafted (although they would be in non-combat jobs). As for gays, "don't ask, don't tell" would prevent an openly gay person from being drafted, however if a dire need were to arise, chances are that would be amended as well.

Excellent question friend. I am a Recruiter and have thought the same questions. Fortunately, I don't think we will ever have a draft.

It will be curious to see if women are exempted with today's women's rights movement for equality. I almost want to say, "you asked for it, so here ya go." But I don't want women forced into service. I do believe men and women are different.

As far as gays being required to serve, and if Hillary gets her way that gays can serve being totally out of the closet pretty much closes the loop hole of gays being exempt.

Here is why a draft will never, ever work again. As a Recruiter, I have approximately 65% of those who volunteer get disqualified for one reason or another because the DoD has made enlistment standards extremely high. Another reason for no draft, Vietnam proved it is useless and caused more fatalities and injuries than what we experience today because today's military consists of volunteers who are America's best of the best.

I know I certainly would not go into combat with somebody who did not want to be there. My life might depend on them.

If they were to reinstate the draft, they'd have alot to consider, especially if the draft were to include women. I think if they included women in the draft, pregnancy rates would skyrocket.

But it's pretty hard to get in now; I know several people who wanted to join the military but were either denied enlistment or discharged during basic (I got a medical discharge because I was unable to pass a PT test due to asthma). Not to mention, I read somewhere that an increasing percentage of Americans are unable to meet the military's weight standards, which could also pose problems in the event of a draft.

Probably mostly men first...but eventually women would come along because if the women didn't go it would pretty much be illegal because that violates the Womens Rights Act ( I think that's the right Act) where all men AND women are to be treated equally with the same rights...even though sometimes they're not. As for gay couples...I don't know...straight people would probably be ******* and go tell on them. I think anybody should be allowed in the army regardless of sexual orientation. I mean seriously...if we ran out of people to go to war and only gay people were left...would you rather die or have your fellow Americans come help you??

I guess everyone of the age and physical fitness would be subject. Perhaps they would not take both parents. In past drafts, the eldest son was exempt as they were the future care takers of their parents.
In college with at least a 'C' average was in a less likely group and married was even less likely and with children, even less likely. However, if needed, they could all be called up. But in pasts drafts it was only men.

At this time, any and all males who have registered with the Selective Service system, which is mandatory when you turn 18 years of age, are susceptible to any draft that could be imposed. However, the combined size of our armed forces are pretty massive, so the odds of a draft being enacted are fairly low at this point.

As far as married/gay couples, it's the military's policy that homosexuals who are open about their sexuality are not welcome. So this probably means that a homosexual could be drafted into initial entry, however upon letting it be known that he is gay, he would likely begin outprocessing.

somebody else basically requested this very question a touch in the past. i do not have a difficulty with serving; truly replaced into going to target to bypass into the defense force earlier I were given pregnant with my first infant. yet, because that's now my husband is serving lively duty in the military and has finished 2 excursions in Iraq, (one 12, one 15 months). i do no longer imagine it might want to be honest to our youthful ones, who're nevertheless very youthful and performance a really not straightforward time with their dad being lengthy gone each of the time; to positioned them able to be without both dad and mom isn't honest to them. i'd request a waiver now to not should be drafted. Neither my husband nor i wish to develop right into a twin defense force couple; we do not experience that's what's healthier for our youthful ones. So, i have self assurance that's going to comprise a waiver in case your companion is at present actively serving their united states in between the defense force branches. To stress dad and mom to leave their little ones with someone at the same time as they were both deployed is calling too a lot from no longer in undemanding words the youngsters and the dad and mom; yet others who may experience obligated to address human beings's little ones for a year or more beneficial at the same time as their dad and mom were deployed because of a draft.

the military, thank GOD, does not and will not rcognize homosexual mariages. More married men have served the causes of liberty than singles. the u.s.a. had a draft for a very short period (early in the 1950's to the end of vietnam), and the result was a large and incompetent force. What we now have is dedicated patriotic professionals, we dont want or need a draft.. and.. it will not happen.. so dont worry , if you dont love your country enough to voluntarily fight for it we wont make you..

I think today it would be men and women whether married or in civil union with exceptions when they have children to care for. First priorty would be unmarried people though.
