Using Ipecac is old school and is no longer recommended to induce vomiting for any reason. I'm an EMT and we no longer carry Ipecac on the ambulance. The reason for this is if a person swallowed a toxic substance, it can do as much damage coming up as it did going down. Your best option is to do the following...call 1-800-POISONS. This is a universal number to poison control. Follow their directions to the letter.

One thing you should keep in your house (especially if you have children or elderly persons who might get confused with their medications is Activated Charcoal. It can be found in any drug store in the first aid section. AC is nasty, black liquid charcoal. It's as bad as it sounds. However, if someone has taken an overdose or toxic substance, what it does is bind to the substance and pass it through the person's system as quickly as possible. It will cause diarrhea. If a person takes the AC and vomits, they must take more. The typical dose is 50 grams. It normally comes in a tube that must be shaken to suspend the liquid.

Do NOT use Ipecac. Do NOT induce vomiting without doctor approval. A doctor must know exactly what was taken. AC is safest. Also, read the container of any substance that has been ingested. Most products will have instructions on what to do if taken incorrectly or intentionally overdosed on.

I hate to say this but if someone wants to use any method of forcing oneself to vomit for other reasons (such as weight control), DO NOT do it. You run the risk of doing severe damage to your esophagus and throwing your body chemistry out of whack. You are risking your life.

As long as you don't over dose nothing will happen. Some people just have tolerances to it. Your stomach may feel a little upset but nothing to serious. If you get on youtube.com some people drink two full bottles and nothing happens to them. Some just vomit uncontrollably.
