And I have NO idea why. Its not just the hair on my head... all my hair seems prone to fall out and break. I've also noticed that my nails are really brittle. Whats going on?!

my diet is pretty normal. I dont drink soda, no red meat, lots of chicken, salmon, pasta. I drink a lot of milk and water, turkey and cheese, baked chips, fruit. I have a vitamin with iron in it every day. I did notice that there is some weird darks spots on the vitamins, I buy childrens chewable because I dont swallow pills easily.
Thanks for all the help. What exactly causes thyriod deficency?

See your family doctor first- it sounds like either one of two things: you have a major vitamin deficiency
thyroid imbalance
both are curable and not to be worried- and the hair that is falling out will come back once the problem that is causing it is fixed......don't worry--- but see a GOOD DOCTOR if you live in a big city or near a big city, I suggest you see a doctor from a major medical center---no offense on the little guys, but they just haven's "SEEN" enough of the oddities to diagnose correctly and quickly..................good luck to you

I would definitely get to your doctor when you can. Hair loss or weakness ( in extreme) can be a sign of a number of different things. Minor causes would be vitamin deficiencies. With your nails being brittle also, this coincides. But, on the more serious side, this could be an indicator of a more insidious problem like thyroid insufficiency.
Eat healthy, make sure you are getting lots of calcium, vitamin E, vitamin D and protein, and see the doctor.

I think it's worth a trip to the doctor to insure there isn't a medical reason for this, especially since it's not just the hair on your head. It could be as simple as a vitamin defficiancy or something like an underactive thyroid, inflammatory disease, hormonal imbalance, etc...
It's worth ruling out something out a medical reason before jumping to conclusions because it's a broad based symptom. Hopefully it's something simple, I wish you all the best.

Have you been stressed? Try taking a Hair Skin and Nail vitamin.. they work really well to keep those things healthy... if you start to feel sick or tired or anything like that starts to change, see your doc right away! But it should get better with vitamins! Good luck ;)

Glue it back on. LOL, just kidding. I would go see the doctor. How much hair falls out a day approx.? I heard that a regular person loses 100 strands of hair in one day. Your nails...I would suggest drinking milk. You might be in lack of calcium. I am lactose intolerant and can't drink milk. So my nails turn like whitist and break easily. ^_^

THYROID. are you eating soy products? They will block the hormones in your body and I lost a lot of my hair from eating soy when I was a vegetarian. If you are a vegetarian then I strongly suggest you eat eggs or more real cheese and chicken meat.
I was really made a mess by soy blocking my thyroid medication.

You are going to have this suggested to you in almost every answer.... get your thyroid levels checked. Those are both symptoms of a improperly working thyroid. Sometimes the tests say your levels are good but you still have a hypo or hyper active thyroid so beware of that!

sounds like you are lacking some nutrients in your diet, also could be stress related. I had the same problem, I am anemic and when I don't take iron and vitamins regularly, I have the same problem in addition to stress at times.
