Since when did atheism become a religion?
It's got followers.
The members all say what they believe.
The try to recruit others.
I bet they even hold secret meetings in completely commonplace locales.
So why are today's average atheist a member of the atheist religion? You know what I'm talking about... They go about telling you all the reasons God doesn't exist and why not to believe in him and how to lead your life... Atheism means devoid of religion... All these people calling themselves Atheists??? It's a bit retarded because it sounds very circular. If you don't believe in God then you don't need to classify yourself as anything. Just say I don't believe in God and it's that simple. There is no need to "become" an atheist. It's like they are protesting the God. In order to protest something, doesn't it have to exist first?

The point is, everyone can see how stupid atheism has become. It's like any cafeteria religion... If you don't believe in God end of story, you aren't anything.

First of all, why would they hold "secret" meetings? It's not like atheism is illegal. That sounds a little paranoid. And why must it be classified as a religion? I'm pretty sure a religion, by definition, must have some beliefs regarding metaphysics, if not a creator. Just because something is a popular idea held by many doesn't make it a religion. You're right, they shouldn't have to call themselves "atheist," and many prominent atheists have pointed this out as well. But in this climate it's a useful word to encapsulate their philosophy and thoughts.

Just plainly a stupid conjecture. You assume much with no real research behind your claims, or even much clear thought.
Atheism is not a religion.
It doesn't have followers. Each atheist is an individual and doesn't seek out the company of fellow atheists so as to reinforce their lack of belief in a myth. It just isn't necessary.
Saying what one believes or disbelieves makes it a religion? That's just silly. I believe that mathematics makes more sense than angels, chess is a better pastime than praying, good wine is much more favourable than arsenic - and so on.
I don't believe that the moon is made of cheese ... and, of course, I could go on but I hope that you see the point by now.
Recruit others? Personally, I couldn't give a flying F7ck what you believe in as long as it doesn't interfere with government policy, educational freedoms, create death and destruction and other very naughty items currently attributed to religous infiltration and terrorism.
I have never been to an atheist meeting. The conversation would be boring very quickly, as we would all hold exctly the same views and such a meeting would soon turn into a general social occasion with atheism being not discussed at all. Have you never heard of 'preaching to the converted'? Atheists don't need to be reassured of their views. Religious people apparently do.
Recruiting others? OK, so I have recruited just one. My step-daughter. She was wasting her life and I 'saved' her. She is grateful.
By the way, I don't 'call' myself an atheist, the English language does. I didn't invent the word.
The rest of your diatribe is puerile, childish in its conception and extremely defensive (the best form of defense is attack?)
Why are you so worried that we atheists exist? Just ignore us and get on with your deluded life.
However, if you ask a question, you get an answer. If you ask a sensible question, you get ...

on each occasion somebody makes use of such made up words inclusive of 'neo atheists', you may tell that they are an ignorant wanker. the only difference in 'new' atheists is that we've greater press exposure. the portion of atheism has no longer replaced one bit. Atheism is a NON perception in deities. for that reason, that's a faith precisely the way that sexual abstinence is a sexual place, bald is a hair shade, and not amassing stamps is a activity. Atheism has NO holy e book, NO being to worship, and NO prophets with whom on could desire to agree. No, atheism isn't a faith, no longer even on one floor. you're a doofus.

I'm sorry you are so confused. Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not a belief. Atheism is the antithesis of religion. Atheism is a disbelief.

Atheists differ in what they believe. They do not all believe there are NO god(s). They do all have NO beliefs in any god(s). If you cannot understand the difference, you will need to do more reading and researching of what atheism is all about.

Atheists lack religion. There's no need to justify a negative. Why should I be classified if you believe in something?

If we say "I don't believe in God" (Note the capitilization there), it's giving credence to the fact that there is a god in a roundabout way. And, of course, there isn't. So no, we're atheists. No deities, no nonsense.

Some good points, but a little on the defensive side. Then again, I can't blame you.

The big issue though, is not a matter of clasifying, it's a matter of accepting.

secret meetings...what country do u live in???? is it illegal to have a mind (that can think) there??? lol.
Atheism is not a religion...but it's a faith nonetheless...and atheism is not protest against God...it's protest against the crimes peoole commit in the name of "God".
Talk about retarded and circular...can't think of a better example than your question!

Atheism is not a religion. It's an absence of acceptance of Theism! It isn't a dogma, silly!

You seem to be confusing atheism with "not believing in YOUR religion!"
