I'm actually kinda curious as to the majority replies to this.

What exactly are your thoughts regarding sexuality, and I do not mean the whole hetero/homo bit. Do you feel sex has a place in spiritual development ? Do you feel it is a human act of creation? Perhaps you think it is a gross and distasteful thing to the eyes of whatever you worship? Do you feel it is spiritual only in the confines of matrimony, or are you not wholey into that?

anything else extra you would like to say on the topic of "Sacred Sexuality," would be awesome as well.

Thanks, and I'm not trying to troll with this.

"Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices, for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals." -- from The Charge of the Goddess

As a Wiccan (and yes, I know you look at us all as "white lighters" ;-)), I believe that sexuality can be a profoundly sacred topic and a deeply spiritual act. I say "can be" because of course it often isn't -- attitude is everything, and hey, every act of sex doesn't have to be a spiritual one.

I feel that sex is an act of exploration, of celebration, of recognition of your partner, and yes, of creation if pregnancy is the goal. Inside of marriage, outside of marriage, gay, heterosexual -- it really doesn't matter to me, as long as it's done with harm to none (BDSM doesn't count as harm in my book as long as it's consensual).

In Wicca as I've learned it, one of the central sacraments is the Great Rite, sexual intercourse between the Goddess and the God, which we perform symbolically through the insertion of the athame (ritual dagger) into a chalice full of wine; the wine is then shared by all participants in the sacred circle. The relationship between the Goddess and the God is, in the proper season, seen as being a sexual one, so you could say that sacred sexuality is inherent in our cosmology.

I believe that sex has a way of messing up spirituality for some people, while others should be married so they don't fall to the temptations of sexual imorality. More often than not, sex becomes a fleshly desire and can move us away from God. On the other hand it is a privilage given to us while we multiply.

In the Bible, sex was looked upon as a means to bind the marriage. The two flesh shall become one. This is something that marriage has so conveniently misplaced. If people were taught that sex is to be sacred to bind a marriage then we wouldn't have so many people out there having problems caused by sexual imorality.

Sexual imorality = Lust, premerital sex, fornication, adultry, beastiality, pornography, rape, and last but not least homosexuality.

Sex can be the closest people can get to each other.

Sex with no barriers, walls, or notions about what is supposed to happen, or who is in control can be an extremely spiritual experience.

Sacred sex has been practiced by many people in many lands. In some cultures it was used to bring a boy into manhood or a girl into womanhood, often with ritual and great celebration. Sex has and is used to put people into a profound state to better commune with the Divine.

Sex has unfortunately become to most people, just procreation, people are being taught to either be ashamed of their sexuality, to use it only for gain, or to revel thoughtlessly in it as just something to do, to me that is a shame. That we can give and receive pleasure I believe is one of our most profound gifts.

I believe it's all good as long it is consensual between adults and no harm is done and no one gets hurt (well unless you're into S&M but even then you should respect your partner.)

Yes I do feel sex has a place in spiritual development and no I don't think it's gross...it's beautiful and it's fun as Hel! ;-)

As for the whole marriage part, no I don't believe that sex can only be done within the confines of marriage like some people do. Like I said, as long as it's consensual...

Sex does have a place in spiritual development. Sex is what binds two people together emotionally and phsyically. I feel that God created sex for us to enjoy. It is his gift. I dont think that God finds it gross and distasteful, only when it is done out of marriage. I think that sex is spiritual outside of marriage as well... When someone has sex outside of marriage, it seems like they always want more. And whenever they have sex, it will never be as good as the first time. They keep desiring it and wanting more of it, and they will never be satisfied. I think that sex is what binds a marriage. But sex destroys people emotionally outside of marriage...

LOL wait till my husband hears we are going to have "sacred sex" lol

Between two married people, sex does indeed renew the body, the mind and the spirit. It's a wonderful experience (if it's done right lol) and should be repeated as often as possible!

I think it's a renewal of everything you are, your mind is refreshed, your body feels good, your spirit is once again joined with that person God gave you.

According to the Vedic literature (the original "How too" books sent by God.The only thing that make sex sacred is when one performs it to procreate and offer that child in service to God by teaching the child how to love God. Otherwise sex is prohibited and can cause so much misery. Just take a calculation how many misery are caused by having illicit sex. (sex outside of marriage)

Anything we do in the physical can be sacred including sexuality, it all comes down to intention. Becoming ONE with another is sacred union, whether it be universal or personal.
