If you have insomnia you should be sure to exercise during the day. Cut out or reduce caffeine and refined sugars from your diet. Don't eat before you go to bed. Try relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing exercises to reduce your stress level. Once you are in bed if you are unable to sleep after a while be sure to get up and read a book, do a sudoku or a crossword puzzle. The longer you lie in bed fretting about not being able to sleep the more unlikely it becomes that you will be able to fall asleep. Do not take sleep aid medication without talking to a physician first. Instead of drugs try some chamomile tea.

Of course you can have insomnia, your age is not a bar to this irritating problem. Here are a few things you can do:
1 Exercise in the morning helps improve the quality of your sleep, they do not know why, but it needs to be in the morning.
2. Warm milk with honey before bed, helps to ease you in to sleep.
3. listen to a book on tape while going to sleep, it may relax you enough to fall asleep, and if you are still awake, you won't get anxious about it.
get up early no matter how little sleep you have had, so your body can get into a routine.
good luck
ps, melatonin, ask your parents to buy you some, it really helps.

Look up some relaxation techniques on the internet and buy yourself a relaxation cd. I did that, and WOW, i sleep like a baby now!! I hadnt had a full nights rest for YEARS before that! All you do is lie in bed, listening to the cd and concentrating on relaxing. It sounds too simple to work but it really does! Try that and if that doesnt work talk to your doctor. Also make sure you stay away from caffiene too as that will keep you awake. Good luck and sweet dreams!!

It takes more then 2 weeks of restless nights to diagnose someone with insomnia. Your problem may be just temporary. Most sleeping problems will go away with time.
I have really bad insomnia and have found nothing compares to the rest you get with a Lunesta sleeping pill.

You sound more stressed out than that you are having insomnia. You need to try to relax and realize that you cannot control certain circumstances.. try to find a way to relax either by listening to music or reading before bed it may help alleviate the problem.

You could try vitamin B - it works for me. Also:
. early-ish dinner
. mild exercise (a walk) after dinner
. warm milk w/ nutmeg
. make sure any physical discomfort is relieved
. turn off the light & close your eyes shortly after getting in bed
I also tried a mild hypnotic med once, just half the pill and I was out fast. But the next night I couldn't get to sleep at all, so I never tried that again.

I have tried some over the counter sleep aids that you can get at wal-mart or any drug store. They seemed to help me stop thinking and get to sleep. If that doesn't work I would go see a doc to get some treatment or stronger sleep medication like ambien.

It's quite possible. Try to not eat any food for a few hours before bed. I sometimes find it helpful to exercise before bed- it helps me mull over whatever is troubling me, and it tires my body. If neither of these help, talk to your parents and see what they think.
