There are many classes you can probably take around your location.

If you have a close Chinese friend, chances are, they, or someone they know, can speak fluent Chinese. Ask for favors.

The last option is a bit costly...but if you research online, you'll be able to find a lot of media (such as videos, CDs, tapes, books) that will help you learn the language quickly.
Of course, you will not be fluent, but you will be able to attain a basic understanding of this infinitely difficult language.

a)first of all try calming down, this will help you learn a language fast.
b)You have 2 months so it wouldn't be possible to learn every possible word.
c)Since youre going taiwan, i'll tell you a little bit about it,at taiwan they speak two languages that are more common, one is taiwanese and the other is manadarin. But mandarin will be the language people speak at school
d)In the 2 months you should just learn common phrases that a traveler would need , start by learning how to speak mandarin...after youve got that down learn some vocabs(tip:make flashcards and use your time wisely, you might want the go over them each day)
e)here is a sight that might help you:http://www.knowledgehound.com/topics/chinese.htm
and this will help you when you study abroad:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_Taiwan
These are just my tips, I'm not sure if it will help but hope you learn it! ^_^

Mandarin is easy to learn, but not easy to speak. The problem is that most languages rely on the pronounciation to distinguish between words while Mandarin relies on both pronounciation and tone. Also particularly with Mandarin, most words are homonyms of others, ie the same pronounciation and the same tone can mean a variety of things, which is why Mandarin is considered a written language, not really useful as a spoken language.

However, Mandarin is easy to learn as it lacks grammer complexity as in most European languages, ie there are no plural, singular, past, present tenses, etc. So statements like "I am going to town", "I went to town", "I go to town", "I going to town", "I go town", etc are all the same.

Another point to note is that Mandarin is just one of the Chinese dialects. In America, most Chinese speak another dialect which is Cantonese. In Taiwan, most Chinese there are bilingual in Mandarin and Taiwanese (another chinese dialect derived from Fujian province of China). If you only understand one dialect, you would not be able to understand someone speaking in another dialect at all (very big a difference).
