Depends on what type of prayer. I do the Daily Office which is a formal type of prayer using the Psalms. It is a monastic thing. When I pray for someone I just talk to God and ask that it be done in the name of Jesus. If I am doing a prayer of healing with the person I do a laying on of hands. If the person is not present I go into a mental prayer/trance and send the healing light to them. Throughout the day, I just talk to Him like a friend.

I pray all the time. When one understands that God is residing within the core of your heart and is everywhere one does not need procedures. I pray within all the time. "pray without ceasing." Though I also Pray on prayer beads sixteen rounds of Hare Krishna Maha Mantra a day. I also Bow down before my alter to show respect to God in that way. But in general I just.

Mostly I just sort of use "telepathy".
When I do formal obligatory prayers, I follow standard procedure (which is pretty involved)

First I thank God for everything He's done, most especially sacrificing his Son, then I apologize for all the sins I've committed that I can think of :) and then I pray for specific things for myself and those I love -- like healing, understanding, patience, etc. I always add in a prayer that all the innocent animals and babies who are suffering STOP suffering.

Sometimes I do a prayer 'warmup' by saying "I love you God" 108x, then mentally list 108 people I know and say "I love you (insert name)", and finish by saying "I love you (My name)" 108x. Then I ask for God to reveal to me the significance of the prayers I am about to share, and ask that I be open during my post-prayer meditation.

there are no 'requirements' in prayer... other than to praise God, thank him for the blessings and ask for help in areas we need help in.... we can pray while sitting... standing.. facing east, west, north, south, up, down... on our knees, on our faces.... or while doing our daily chores... driving... to me prayer can be so much more than just a reverant chant.... it is the way that I can converse with God... and then listen to hear His still small voice in a noisy world...
