Why should they? There's nothing wrong with it.

No more than people "overcome" heterosexuality" or "maleness" or "femaleness".
You are what you are. You might be a homosexual and try to live the life of a heterosexual. Some do so. Some think that this brings them closer to god, or assures them of salvation. Too, some thought that self flagellation did the same thing. Some thought that being sealed in a structure in a church would do that as well.
Many people have crazy ideas that torturing the body can save the soul. They believe that living celibate or somehow denying yourself is what deity wants.
You know what? If that's what you think, then fine ... live that way. Just don't condemn people who simply have a different set of beliefs. These ex-gay groups are really hurting real people. The bogus idea that homosexuality is pathological is killing poeple. It really needs to end.

It all depends on your perspective. If you are a bible believing Christian who is a practicing homosexual, then you are the same as a bible believing Christian who is lying, or stealing, or commiting adultery, or killing. If you another religion, you would have to consult someone from that religion. The bible says we are born in sin, homosexuality would just be one of the many symptoms of that sin I say symptoms because the only real sin is not doing what God says to do, not having a heart after God. Having said that. . . If you are an athiest, you would have to have a reason to not want to be homosexual, or be raised thinking it is wrong in which case you would have an inner struggle.

Hard question. I think that socially we attempt to put people and ourselves into roles, and there are probably many homosexuals who aren't really all that gay but go with the old adage, you can build 1000 bridges but suck one, well you know the rest.
I don't buy the whole gay thing as wrong. But I do think many people fall into it due to extenuating circumstances.
Its not like you meet many well adjusted homosexuals. Generally the strife it causes in their personal life interferes with their self esteem. The church generally refuses any real thoughtful help. It really causes so much grief that it becomes hard to tell.
Some people though, are definately gay.

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

Homosexuality is a sexual attraction to one's own gender. This isn't overcome. Denied, perhaps, but not overcome.
Think about it, could you overcome your heterosexuality, only being attracted to your own gender for the rest of your life????? I didn't think so.

Nope. I think people are as likely to "overcome" homosexuality as they are to "overcome" blue eyes.

if homosexuality is a problem for you, then maybe you need to be the one to "overcome" your own issues.

No. I think in most cases sexual orientation is inbuilt, and that's that.
I further suspect that many people are are "cured" of homosexuality were in fact bisexual to begin with, but I don't have any firm numbers on that.

No. Your sexuality is your sexuality. The people who claim to be "cured" of homosexuality either (a) are lying to themselves, (b) never were gay to begin with, or (c) have pushed those thoughts so far out of their head that they don't even think about it anymore... but they're still gay, obviously. It's not something you can just "change".

Yes you can overcome it if you have good conviction why you should do it.Pros and cons come into a big scrutiny. The fact that you think you can overcome it,will make you overcome it.Ask God for strength or talk to your church minister over the matter.Sometimes you can not win war alone.Say,yes I can overcome it and you will definitely.
