I would use at least 1 cup. but i love strong coffee

The so called 12cup coffee makers seem to be using the itty-bitty European cups for measurements, I believe...depending on what kind of cup you use and how strong you like your coffee...the best way to figure it out is to use a smaller amount, let's say, use the 3 cup line of water, use 3 tablespoons of ground coffee and see if you like it! Adjust your water and coffee levels from that!

if you use all 12 cups of water about 1/2-1 cup of coffee grounds (to taste)

one heaping teaspoon for each cup and one more for good measure! it's how strong ya like it.
