There are several Navy bases in California, but most of them and the largest of them are in the San Diego area, so it is most likely in San Diego.

Do not make any plans until he graduates from school and has his orders to his next unit.
Once he has orders the family will get all kinds of transition assistance and have access to resources for the area and unit he will be headed to.
In addition, if he doesn't make it through school (and that's always a possibility) then all bets are off and the family may end up being transferred to a different location.
There are several Navy bases in the San Diego area, in addition bases are located in Monterey, Lemoore, Port Hueneme/Ventura County among other places.

There are Naval bases in the following locations: China Lake, Lemoore, Monterey, Point Mugu, Seal Beach and San Diego. There are actually several Navy bases in San Diego, and I'd be willing to bet he will wind up there . Not to bum your friend out, but Navy housing is hard to get into, and off-base rents are VERY high. a three bedroom house is going for anywhere from $1,700.00 to $2,200.00 per month, and apartments aren't much cheaper.

There are several Naval bases in the state of California. His assignment will depend upon his MOS ( Military Occupational Specialty) and the needs of the service at the time of his graduation. Another factor could be more advanced training if his choice of occupation requires a higher level of discipline. There are several Naval aviation facilities if he is in aviation or aviation support, along with the more familiar wet bases along the coast.

There are 5 in the San Diego area (NAS North Island, Coronado, 32ND St, Imperial Beach and one on the Silver Strand.) There are a few in the desert area (El Centro is one), and I think a small one in San Francisco. there might even be more than that, those are just the ones I am aware of It all depends on what job he is going for.

it all depends on his passing bmt, and ait if he does not pass , he will lose his slot on whatever location he is headed.
also duty assginments change during bmt and ait trianing, where ever the Navy needs him is where he will go.
