You should believe it all. The problem is that very few people actually study it to find out what it actually says. And of those few, few of them actually do what it says. I know I fail in both aspects. God knows that we fail and that is why He provided a solution to our failure. One sad thing I see in Christianity today is people who latch on to a verse because it was what they were looking for. They use the bible to make it say what they want to hear, rather than what it actually says. This is why so many Christians slowly become corrupt, and don't change. If Christians were to actually do what the bible says to do and lived their lives according to all scriptures, people wouldn't be able to deny that there is a God, and that the God of the bible is the only true god. That of course is if the bible is true, which I believe it is. Now if a peice of it is a lie, then you may as well as think of it as a History book because God cannot contradict himself unless he was lying when He said that, in which case you can no longer rely on the bible as truth. SO you either have to believe that the bible is all true, or it is just another account of history written from several perspectives over thousands of years that somehow magically (or something) point to the same truths. You have much better odds at winning the lottery several times in a row, than the odds that that many people can author 66 books that don't contradict. So either it contradicts and God is a liar, or doesn't exist, etc. Or it is all TRUE!

I stoped being concerned with the validity of the bible a long time ago. But I have met a lot of people who called themselves Christians who pick and chose which parts to follow. Especially in the old testament. Certain laws are to be followed - yet other ones aren't. Makes you wonder.

I think that if you want to believe in Jesus you need to believe the whole thing. Jesus was a Jew - the Old Testament is just as relevant as the New. A lot of Christians don't want to hear that - but the original covenants, and the laws they still follow, along with the creation of the world and the first sin are all in there. All part of their faith.

If you are picking and choosing, then you are shaping a religion around your needs. Which means you are shaping God around your needs. Doesn't work like that.

I believe all of it.

I am a Thomist (St. Thomas Aquinas) - I don't believe that Holy Scripture can be taken outside of the context of the Holy Tradition of the Church. Or, without the use of Holy Reason.

I also believe what St. Thomas said about always trying to look for the literal interpretation, but not at the expense of the obviously allegorical.

everything in the bible is true.
But people read parts of the bible, and use verses that are said by other people and not by God, Or moses.
and they stop and don't read on to see what happened after all of this and what god did about it.
and they don't see those little numbers and letters that tell you to refer to other parts for better explaination of what it means

There must be something in the bible that's correct.. Not anything supernatural, but saying something like the grass on the ground is green. Then yeah, I would believe some of it... but disbelieve about 98% of it.

You have to believe in the whole and alter your desires/needs to line up with the Bible. Life is so much better when you do.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

(Revelation 22:18-19) “I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19 and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.

i believe the whole thing. But it is important to point out that many people take verses completely out of context. It is very important to know who wrote each book of the bible, who they were writing it to and the historical references. Then one can take it and more constructively apply it to modern life.

The bible is more than just a book, it is the word of God, it is Jesus on paper. If you're going to believe it, you must believe all of it. If one part is false then all of it is false, and we are doomed. Since all is true we have hope in the resurrected Christ Jesus.
