Why the hell do people drink alcohol? I seriously don't get it. Growing up I've always believed that drinking is for people who have emotional problems or can't have fun sober.

I don't think it's a fascination as much as a social thing. At least, for me.

Some people actually ENJOY the drink itself, which is completely understandable when drinking good wine...wine tasting is neat...tasting the complexities and matching wine with different foods to bring out different flavors.

Beer can be an acquired taste if you're only drinking to get drunk. Otherwise, it can be as enjoyable as a good glass of wine. My husband brews his own beer and it's really fun to see how all the batches turn out differently.

Liquor is tasty but the main reason to drink it, I feel, is to get drunk...to lose your inhibitions, which isn't necessarily a good thing all the time.

Some people also drink to deal with chronic pain issues.

I think similar to smoking, because alcohol is legal and so widely accepted, that the peer pressure is much stronger and harder to ignore.

I also think that people that don't understand "drinking" haven't been drinking the right things or the right way.

Mind altering substances have been a societal facination for ever. Alcohol is just legal in most societies in the modern world, so it does not have the stigma that illegal substances have.

I agree with you though, some people can't be social unless they have something to remove there inhibitions, while others need no assitance. I find people get annoying once they reach a cetain level, and I am not interested in interacting with them, even though they think they are quite facinating.

I do drin on occassion, don;t have an issue with people that do or don't drink, as long as I consider it under control.

I think the fascination with drinking because of WHERE people drink. The clubs, bars and parties are the settings for the human "mating dance."
The booze allows many people to drop their guard and become more gregarious and have contact with people they may find attractive.
Many people give up this lifestyle once they have a serious partner and have a family.
The people that keep on getting wasted usually do have problems and that is sad.

Your Exactlly right. Drinking is not good at all. In moderation is a Sociable accectable thing and is ok. But if you drink like I do which is everyday just to cover up your horrible life you can't deal with it's dangerous. I don't recommend drinking to anyome who is happy with their life and well being but if you don't give a s*** like myself then drink up.
