I have a cat that is constantly throwing up for a couple of days now. I took him to the vet and they did blood work (ill get it back tomorrow) and did and x-ray that turned out fine. My other cat is usually very loving towards him but wont get close to him and hisses at him. Could it be because he is sick? How would she know? Does he smell differently since he isnt well?

awww... I am sooo sorry that one of your kitties is sick. I hope it proves to be a case of sensitive tummy becuase all that needs is a change of diet. And yes, its quite normal for a healthy cat to hiss and avoid a cat that it senses is sick. It is instinctual - a reflex of survival in the wild. The healthy cat hisses at a sick cat to warn it to stay away becuase the sicknes may be contagious and becuase sick animals will attract predators. Of course the cat does not actually THINK in this way; I am saying that it is a survival instinct and like so many animal instincts for survival, can appear cruel and heartless to us.
Hope your kitty gets better!

Cats can sense when another one is sick. You didn't say how old he is, Hope his blood work comes ok. Maybe its an allergy, don't give him people food only cat food, My cat used to bring up a lot too probably because she always wanted my food, she'd beg and paw at me when I'd be eating something, so I'd give her some, it got to the point that she had human food a lot & was bringing up. So I stopped it and now she is fine. Ijust hope kitty gets well, maybe his blood-work will show some thing Good Luck.

I won't try to guess what's wrong with your cat just pray it isn't serious. How ever as to your other cat, I can tell you this. God made the animals to since stuff through smell that we can only find through many test. A mother cat has been known to kill one of her young if it is too sick to live and will die slowly. Or give her other kittens something that will make them sick. I guess this is what is going on here. There is proably something going on that one cat sinces. Hope your vet is able to fix up your cat and I will keep you all in my prayers.

He can sense that your other cat is sick, and brobly just warning him to keep back so he doesnt get whatever it is. I hope your kitty will be ok and the vet finds out what it is. The best thing would probly keep then separated so the other doesnt get it if he can catch it. And also that way you dont have to worry about a fight brakeing out.

This behaviour is common in cats and dogs. They do sense when there is illness in another animal. And until you know it might be best to seperate the two in case it is contagious.

Our pets can also pick up on illness or stress in the family. I figure it is that special gift that Mother Nature gave our animals. Hope it isn't serious for your cat!

I'm so sorry. My cat was ill for a month and just passed away last week, so I know how difficult it can be when your pet is not well, and how uncertain everything can feel. My best advice is to spend as much time as possible with your kitty, tell him how much you love him, and do whatever you think is best for him.

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you and your kitty.

Your other cat can sense that something is wrong and that is why hes hissing at him now. Cats just can sense things like that. I hope all is well with your kitty tho. GOod luck!

Your cat probably does smell differently from both his sickness and his trip to the vet's office. Keep them separated until your kitty feels better, because he's probably too weak to defend himself.

animals do sense when there is sickness around them. They will either stay close or in your case keep at a distance, that's normal. Sounds like your kitty has hair balls, causing his problem.

I had one like that...they did everything except the x-ray...someone said that maybe he had a food allergy to something in the cat food? They said there are cat foods made out of wild venison (deer, etc) that you could try (Natural Balance is one)
http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Natural-Balance-Venison-Green-Pea-Dry-Cat-Food/158041.aspx
...also there are enzymes that you can put on their food if they could be low in digestive enzymes..

.I never did find out what was wrong with mine...eventually it acted like it had alzheimer's...pooing in its food bowl, etc...and eventually died...hope you have better luck..
