Never do, I live alone & never have overnight visitors, when regular visitors are here I don't go take a shower. I'm not even sure the lock works since I last got the doors painted.

We never locked the doors at home either, it was my mom, dad and me and we were never prudish around each other, it was just family. If we all had to get out of the house around the same time we'd never give it a second thought if one was taking a shower and the other brushing his or her teeth, even when I was a teenager. I sure didn't think of my dad in a sexual way and he didn't either.

Oh, forgot -I'm in the Netherlands and grew up there, lived in the US for several years but there I always had room/housemates who weren't close relations, so I did lock the bathroom when showering.

If I was alone in the house, I would generally leave the door open, unless it was a cold day and I wanted to retain the steam in the bathroom.

If there are others in the house who might inadvertently enter while I was showering, I would close the door. I don't imagine that I would usually bother to go so far as to lock it, as I would expect that most people would realize that a closed bathroom door means 'occupied'. I leave the door ajar when the bathroom is vacant.

I live in the USA (originally from NYC; now in Denver)

I'm from near San Francisco. I live alone so I usually leave the door open when I shower bc otherwise the bathroom gets too stuffy (no windows in there) but if I am at someone elses house or I have company I always shut and lock the door. hope it helps with your conversation haha

If I'm in my own home and it's just me or a couple people, I don't see a reason to; friends and family should have enough about them to know to knock before entering a closed room, especially a bathroom.

If I were at someone else's house or if I had a lot of people over, then I might lock the door.

The "etc." makes this interesting, but unanswerable. If I'm in the shower, I might well leave the door unlocked in case someone wants to come in and brush their teeth. But if I'm, well, uh, sitting, I'll lock the door, to preserve my privacy and avoid embarrassment. There's no real way to play off having someone walk in on you in mid-wipe.

My wife and I have been married eight years and never seen each other, uh, pooping. And I like it that way.

Then again, we don't lock the because we always knock when it's closed.

So, no. And, yes, we're American.

i lock the door even if im the only one home. im paranoid someone will walk in on me. when i was little my great grandpa walked in on me and was just sorta staring at me. i yelled, "grandpa get out!" finally he turned and left. ive locked the door everytime since. if the door doesnt lock, i make sure to make noise in the bathroom (coughs and such) to let people know im in there. and if i hear someone walk by the door i grab it real quick. im from Chicago, IL USA.

edit: when i shower, i keep the door unlocked in case someone needs to use the toilet. it freaks me out but i live with 5 other people and one bathroom. it has to be done.

Yes I still to this day lock the door when I'm showering. I have an overactive imagination and always imagine someone sneaking in the bathroom and killing me while I'm in there and me not being able to hear them because of the water running. :) Like a modern day Psycho. I'm stationed at North Pole AK at the moment.

No. I do close the door. In our house, a closed door indicates that someone is in the bathroom. We respect each other enough to not open the door when we know someone is in there.

Yes, I always lock the bathroom door just in case someone has to use the bathroom so that I can have privacy. I'm from the U.S.A.
