Strep, like any other infection, if not treated can cause significant damage, and the real problem is that you won't know until after the damage is done.

Infections can damage other organs and parts of the body. It could lead to scarlet fever, brain damage and even death. That is the worst of the events, but all can be avoided with a little common sense and a simple painless test by the doctor.

It is such a shame that people, and especially parents say, "I didn't know", and a little kid suffers from their mistake.

Untreated Strep Throat (should be treated with 10-days of penicillin) can lead to rheumatic fever--which can kill. And, yes, it can be bad for the heart.
