these 661s look pretty heavily padded to me:

if your looking for lycra shorts, i recommend Specialized. i bought my pair for $60 about 6 months ago and they definately ease up the stress of sitting in the saddle for hours. they look pretty hot too cuz they have the red "S" logo on each side.
jensonUSA, Blue sky cycling, and Price point are great bargain sites for anything to do with bikes.

Bodies are very different.
You are going to have to try on several. Your first purchase should be from a bike shop. Later you can order extras off the web.
However no matter what brand(s) you look at better shorts just cost more. I would start at the $75 point and go up.
for me: (you could be very different)
I like Verge shorts they fit me best.
I do not like pear izume, my body hates them.
Santini are OK (it's my current team kit I'll have to suffer)
Bergamo are OK, a little tight in the legs
Louis garneau fit well but the pad was a little thin.
Hot shop, horrible fit, pad, and durability.

First, and maximum considered necessary, stay far off from the vast container shops despite in the event that they are advertising a bike that seems cool. Their motorcycles are no longer a good investment because of the fact they gained't final very long. enable the pros enable you to. bypass on your close by bike save and tell them the place and the form you opt for to journey. enable them to renowned how plenty you would be able to desire to spend. they'll experience you up with the bike that perfect meets your desires. Then, and maximum considered necessary, try journey the bike. bypass to different shops and spot what they could desire to furnish. Make "apples to apples" comparisons. One bike will merely experience greater effective and in nice condition greater effective than the others. purchase that bike in spite of the form call. The enterprise is so aggressive that any 2 motorcycles on the comparable cost element are very in all probability to be equivalent values. Make that artwork for you. HTH

The best: Assos' top bib shorts $$$$$$ and Rapha bib shorts
http://www.rapha.cc/index.php?page=91
http://www.assos.com/en/
The runner ups: Santini, Castelli, Nalini, Biemme, Louis Garneau
There are several grades within a brand with different fabric and chamois (padding) combinations. Bib shorts are much better than regular shorts. You don't have to get the best ones but make sure you get good shorts that fit.

definitely go to a bike shop and try some on
I prefer (in this order) Pearl Izumi, Specialized, Louis Garneau, and my favorite-Descente
but remember that each manufacturer makes a few different styles and may have a wide price range.... I also prefer bibs over regular shorts, so I am used to paying 75 to 100 bucks each.

I have tried several and I'm in LOVE with my Assos. They are far and away the best i've ever used. I would recommend them highly but be prepared for sticker shock. They aren't cheap.
