My ex-girlfriend wants to be best friends with me. I try to go along but its too painful. I can not relax when I'm around her, I'm constantly thinking that we could be together now If I hadn't screwed up. The strange thing is that last year the roles were reversed, she begged me to marry her and I said I wasn't ready, (which is why it ended). Yet even though I 'rejected' her she still enjoyed spending time with me as a friend. Are women better at being 'just friends' with someone they can not have ?

I think that she still cares about you...

It is good to still be "just friends" because that is the basics to a great relationship...that could develop into more again...

She probably still cares about you, but doesn't really know how to connect with it ... or how to place your relationship..

So, hang in there...love her completely...and it will be what it will be...I am sure things will work out in due time...

But, if you really feel there is no chance for you all to rekindle the relationship..it may be worth talking about where the relationship is going...you don't want to be in a relationship and not genuinely care for how you feel about where things are between the two of you...

Just be honest with yourself about where you hope things will go...and then you can determine how you want to handle it...
