Clcik Start, then push and hold shift until you click the magic button. Click SHut Down. Standby should have turned into Hibernate. Otherwise, go to your Power Options control panel and enable it. It will require as much hard drive space as you have RAM (ie. if you have 512MB of RAM< you'll need at least 512MB free hard drive space).

That is a bad idea. Never use hibernation. just turn the thing off. You will wear out your components faster and often a pc will not recover from hib....and you will then be stuck...it's just a bad idea....go to Contro Panel, Display, Screen Saver, Power.. there you can set you Power Schemes for the monitor and harddrive, pc. Then go to the Advanced tab and set options and power buttons. Next go to the Hibernate tab and select the Enable hibernation box. If set these up wrong you are just asking for trouble. ( you will burn up your pc) or you will not be able to log into it. so use at your own risk. (but you are learning so Good luck.) ....pcr

This mean that your computer does not support hibernation - it is due to the motherboard and its chipset.
