The speaking in toungue was designed specifically to help grow the early Christian congregation and it served it's purpose beautifully. If you look at the account in acts a small group of 120 were granted holy spirit and as a result wre able to speak to the people of about 15 different regions in their own language. They were understood.. they spoke in KNOWN languages, including Greek. That is no longer the case today.
What God uses now to draw people is another product of his Holy Spirit.... His Word the Bible.

Yes of course there are many of us who do. We are happier and more self actualized humans than any other group of people. We freely express our love for God.
Many people believe that tongues are a language of the angels but sometimes people have heard an obscure known language coming from someone with this gift, that the speaker had no way of knowing how to praise God in this language.
I know that for me, It is a personal prayer language that gives me peace when I pray in it. Also, if I have no idea how to pray I just let the Holy spirit pray for me. I have experienced many amazing insights into peoples lives that have helped them, that came to me while praying for them in Tongues.

In the divine sense of the term as pictured in the NT, all even of different languages understood when they were praying in tongues in the upper room. Tongues(like Physical baby talk to the Spirit) can come forth while praying and one leaps into the Spirit where our words become less and our Spirit eye talk becomes more. (hope this is understandable)

To answer your question, Yes the Holy Spirit does enable people to speak in tongues in modern times. Its biblical according to the book of 1&2 Corinthians. You said they will cease. But nobody knows when that is. Only God does! I know tongues exist because i've seen it happen in person even though many are against it and don't want to believe it. I do!

I think it would help you if you would stop scripture jumping and grasp the concepts of what you are reading. Yes people of God do speak in tongues in 'modern' or todays' times. And they are people of God. When one speaks in tongues, they are talking directly to God. If there is an interpreter in the room, then they can tell others what is being said. That is why the Word of God says that we should pray that God gives us these gifts. One reason being that when we witness these events, if we don't understand, then we won't get jealous and allow satan to get in us and make us bad mouth these people. The Word of God says that His people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. May God Bless U.

It has been proved that people do speak in other tongues - real languages - in modern times. One famous singer was heard speaking Greek by someone who knew Greek, but the singer did not know Greek. I personally know a man that spoke Spanish and was understood by a Mexican, but the man speaking Spanish did not know Spanish.
"when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away" - that which is perfect has not come yet.
You can say it doesn't happen all day long, but you can't stop it from happening.

Jesus said died so that we could do what he did, miracles-gift of healing, and we would prophecy, he said that he would send the holy ghost-gift of tongues, I guess your saying the holy ghost is limited and so is the cross because you misunderstand 1 Cor, 13:8. Is the cross limited in its power to save, no, then why is the holy ghost limited in the gift of tongues???
