I have visited a couple of sites on the internet but they come across as specialising in breeding top spec show dogs.

All we require is another addition to our family, so temprament and personality are far more important than physical perfection!

I would be extremely grateful for any information whatsoever!

We already own a much loved 3yr old border collie cross who chose us when we visited our local rescue centre and we couldn't imagine life without him.

I'd have recommended Champdogs
http://www.champdogs.co.uk/guided/all_russian-black-terrier.html

or for you to look on the Kennel Club Puppy Register:
http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/436

But I notice you're a bit wary about buying a 'show dog' ... however, I'm sure that the breeders of the 'show dogs' will also breed for temperment & personality as well ... you can't show an irritable or unhappy dog - well, I suppose you can but it won't do as well as one that's happy in what it's doing - so please don't be put off if one of the breeders whose website you visit also happens to be doing well in the showring.

If you're really concerned - why not try looking for a breeder who only has a few dogs & that way it's much more likely that they've had plenty of time to love & socialise their puppies properly?

Anyway, you could also try searching on ePupz - any advertised there may or may not be KC registered or pure-bred:

http://www.epupz.co.uk/search/puppies_for_sale.asp?area=all&st=1&breed=Russian+Black+Terriers
Oh - there aren't any puppies advertised at the moment - but I think that ePupz gives you the option to receive an email when any adverts are placed - you'll have to register for details - free & gives you all details except for current adverts - current ads cost £4.99 but it's all explained on the site ... & they do have a list of Russian Black breeders:

Black Russian Terrier Breeders Uk

There are very few Russian Blacks in this country. Thankfully, those that are here are still being bred by show kennels as that is the way the breeders get the breed known and keep up the standard in temperament , health & soundness. If you find a breeder is not breeding for the show ring - beware - reputable breeders only do so to improve the breed. Go to one of the top breeders, tell them you want a dog as a pet and they will be able to find one for you as not every puppy in a litter is show standard. Don't expect it to be much cheaper though, sensible breeders to not charge more for show puppies as ultimately it is impossible to tell which puppy will fulfil its potential as a show dog.

I have a terrier also, and I think she is the best dog ever. I was going to breed her also, But their are so many wonderful dogs out there that nobody wants or are mistreated, if you have love to give and all you want is an addition to your family, try giving a great home and lots of love to a dog or puppy that really, really need it. Before you make a decision PLEASE give them a chance, you may be surprised and get the best dog you ever had, ya know they give more love and try to please even more because all they want is to be LOVED!

They are still very very rare in this country. For a large dog similar in looks and somewhat more common, try a giant schnauzer or a Bouvier des Flandres.
