nope... most restaurants let their employees order whatever they want with at least a 50% discount, and it is made when they order it. Although if something is made twice or made wrong (and it was never given to the customer), then sometimes the employees will eat it.

You have got to be kidding me! Wow the thought of that is nasty. I worked in the family dining industry for over 20 years and that was NEVER something that happened where I worked. We didn't even so much a re-serve a roll (and there are some high-class places that do).
Now, I take it by "leftovers" you mean food that was actually served to patrons and then came back uneaten. Absolutely YUKKO, if that is the case! Just think of the contagious disease potential. Staph infections are a HUGE problem right now and it can be transmitted by unwashed or improperly washed hands. BLECH!
Our policy was that certain beverages were free, and lunches were half priced for employees. But employees did occasionally get free meals if they were interested in an item with a freshnes date about to expire and therefore we wouldn't serve that particular item to patrons (which meant it was in reality still perfectly good for a few days by health department standards...) or if an item was made wrong by mistake.

No it's not true, in fact the people who work in restaurants either have to pay 1/2 price for food or get their food free....they NEVER eat left overs...it's against the health codes of the U.S.

I, too, work in a restaurant and I can truthfully tell you that is both false and disgusting. Where I work it's set up, as dork123 stated, that all employees get a 50% discount off anything on the menu (excluding alcohol for obvious reasons).

Eating someone else's leftovers....that idea is pretty gross. I've worked in restaurants, and the worst we've had to do was pay for our meal at a discount, and the best is where we can order what we want, one meal/shift, paid for by the restaurant.

Oh my goodness no. Not here in the States. I worked in a resturant and and the waiters/waitresses always got plates of food straight from the cooks for themselves to eat.

They get "employee meals" - a special meal cooked by the chef for the cooks and servers to eat (when they get a spare moment or at the end of their shift) Also, sometimes the chefs will try out a new dish on the workers - if they like it, then it will go on the menu.

I am a waitress and we order and eat our own food. The thought of eating leftovers is disgusting. If we make something wrong and the people don't want it (haven't even touched it), or we made extras we sometimes split it between everyone working.

I would not doubt it to be honest.
I can see it in India.
But who is to say it does nto happen somewhere in America.
But I have never heard of such a thing so it is certainly not the norm.
