I want to drill probably about a half inch hole into a glass vase. Is this possible? And if not, is there a type of material that would work better? Porcylon perhaps? I'd prefer it to be clear.

most of the answers are good.....however you do NOT need a Diamond drill.........

Patience is the answer....

go to the hardware shop & get a mounted point grinding wheel.....

put the glass under water (or at least have lots of water running on it).....grind away slowly with the point in an electric drill..( TIP...DO NOT GET WATER ON ELECTRIC DRILL)

Yes you can cut glass and drill holes in it. There are special diamond cut drill bits that will cut glass. I recommend you take the vase by a glass shop and ask if they have anything that could cut a half inch hole. {My guess is you are making a lamp?!?

drilling a hole in glass you need to a diamond blade bit-made for glass or some tile and and high speed drill. do not apply to much pressure on the glass or it will crack.

Sure can. There is a telescope design, Cassegrain I think, where the eyepiece looks through a hole in the main mirror.

You can but you need lots of water so the glass won't crack or break.

you can do this in a pan of water, one that will cover your peice of glass. also beware of glass dust! it is extremly bad for you, bad for your skin and eyes and lungs etc!
