This is a very personal question that does not yield one definite answer. You have to experiment before you find out what works best for you. Someone may visual playing the round before they go to sleep, seeing each shot in detail. Others, including myself play our best when we do not think about golf at all. I like to arrive at the tee without worrying at all. If I think I usually think of negative things or set unreasonable goals. Colin Montgomerie once said that he hits the ball quickly to avoid negative thoughts coming into his head. Good Luck.

Congrats lexi! Well I dont have any magic for you but there are a couple of tricks that work great for me. First tee jitters, I take a ball and toss it up about a foot a few times, just focus on the ball and catching it. It gives you something to do for a minute to help you focus. Get some sleep. Think in the moment, that is the biggest one, think about that shot and where you want it. Dont think of the one you just had or the one you are gonna have later, stay in the moment. Plan each hole on the tee. Good luck.

Ben Hogan had a great answer for this.

When asked the same basic question he told the LPGA player to "Learn to play nervous".

Stay focused on your immediate shot...not the last one - not the end of the round...play yourself...play what you KNOW you can do....love every shot...and the round will come naturally. You'll be great....
