None of the countries with nuclear weapons were "allowed" to have them - they just got them or created them, including Pakistan. No one - especially India - was happy about that.

There is a great international effort to keep more countries from having them since, obviously, they are very dangerous.

They are not "allowed" to. Quite simply, no one can stop them.

The US recently recognized India as being responsible enough to have a nuclear program, but did not extend the same recognition to Pakistan.

For your info, every country has the rigth to have a nuclear weaponds. USA is not the king of the earth. You do not have rigth to ask people to obey to your instructions. USA is one of the country in this world. They are acting as they are the earth police officer. They can invade any country, which they didn't like.

Which "others" cannot?

England can. France can. India can. Isreal can. Russia can.

If your question is why the US gets upset about some countries developing nuclear wepons, but not about other countries doing so, it's completely arbitrary -- it pure politics and popular favor.
